WAR-BEAU: CARL C PROJECTION

In Carl C Projection Metoyer presents multi-layered works in video inspired by the notion first postulated by Carl C Jung that conciousness may be something that is being projected at us from the stars. For Metoyer, editing and layering an 11 year archive of imagery is similar to the process of painting, the only difference is that the filming and editing process replaces the paintbrush in the creation of form.

In these hypnotic and sometimes unsettling works Metoyer takes the images he has recorded across four different continents increasingly further into the realm of abstraction, allowing the viewer to experience the world directly from behind his eyes. In this way, Metoyer takes on the role of a conciousness projector, communicating the ‘time-memory-moment’ equation that is a central theme in much of his work. The heavily codified films take everything from the threat of a global pandemic to war in the middle-east and an impoverished american landscape in their sway, and are soundtracked by a selection of avante-garde soundworks by the artist. All of the films in the show play in unison creating an orchestral soundscape punctuated only by occasional moments of simultaneous silence in which the viewer is invited to step into the calm eye at the centre of the global static storm.
